Tucson Comic-Con

Overview

Tucson Comic-Con (tucsoncomic-con.com) is another fast growing pop culture convention. It was founded by Mike Olivares in 2008, when it was a single day event with a 500 attendance. By 2015 it had expanded to three days and had over 10,000 fans in attendance.

In 2015, Brian and Francesca Pulido of Lady Death fame bought into the convention and now have joint ownership with Mike and Teresita Olivares.

In 2022, after two years out because of COVID, Tucson Comic-Con announced a controversial change of dates. It had been held in early November since their beginning in 2008, but would now move onto the Labor Day weekend on which Saboten Con had happened since 2012 and CoKoCon (and its spiritual predecessor, CopperCon) had happened since 1981.

The artwork on all the program book covers I've seen thus far is by Travis Hanson, using a consistent character.

Notes

  1. Tucson Comic-Con 13 hadn't actually announced dates for 2020 by the time COVID-19 arrived but was officially cancelled because of concerns over safety. It chose to skip 2021 entirely, eventually returning with controversial new dates in 2022.
